Vase collection from ICONIC HOME nominated for the German Design Award 2025

Vases as exclusive design objects

Sustainable and durable decorative objects are becoming increasingly important in upscale home decor. The designer vases from ICONIC HOME combine exclusive art with sustainability. Even without flowers, the vases stand as independent art objects at the center of aesthetic and high-quality living. The vase collection was nominated for the German Design Award 2025.

The German Design Award

The German Design Award is the premium prize of the German Design Council. With its worldwide spectrum and international appeal, it is one of the most prestigious awards in the design landscape across all industries.the German Design Award places the highest demands on the selection of its winners: In a unique nomination process, companies are invited to participate whose products and communication design services are demonstrably convincing due to their design quality.

There has been criticism of fast fashion for some time now. Fast, cheaply produced and often inferior fashion is part of the range of short-lived products that are neither of high quality nor sustainable. The same applies to interior design: many people are turning away from “fast interiors” and the use of sustainably produced decoration and high-quality interior design is becoming increasingly important. Even in the upmarket decoration segment.

High-quality alternative for exclusive home decor

Decorative art objects, which attract attention as premium home accessories, offer a high-quality and upmarket option for anyone for whom long-lasting and sustainable design is important.

The designer vases from ICONIC HOME also speak for themselves as elegant decorative objects. The five different vase models are each available in three sizes. The models are produced in a process lasting up to 15 hours using 3D printing and then undergo further quality controls.

The material used is a bio-based plastic made from corn starch or sugar cane. Both the material used and the timeless look of the vases make them durable premium decorations that outlast fast-moving trends.

Designer vases in five shapes

Different models of vases

The modern designer vases are available in five different shapes, which are deliberately kept classic. Timeless shapes of bottle vases or ball vases served as inspiration for the design.

However, these familiar classic vase shapes have been taken a step further to achieve a special exclusivity. By merging the traditional vase shape with the aesthetic high-low effect made possible by 3D printing, the vases become unique design objects.

Each of the five shapes in the vase collection therefore stands out from its traditional model in terms of appearance.

All vases are available in three sizes and can be placed individually or in combination with each other in the home.

All ICONIC HOME models now boast a timelessly purist design with deeply integrated segments that create a striking interplay of light and shadow.

The vases can be filled with dried flowers, grasses and fresh bouquets, but also stand on their own as independent design objects. The special shapes and surface design of the individual vases make them an eye-catcher in many interior styles.

Luxurious home decor with designer objects

It was the designer’s intention from the outset that the vases would also become design objects apart from their actual function.

The unusual lamella structure of their surface turns them into high-quality home accessories and thus picks up on a design option that has already been used in other structures in art.

Louvres are frequently used in art, for example in large installations in which impressive plays of light and shadow are created by deliberately arranged louvres.

By arranging individual slats at different angles and distances, artists can create fascinating effects, with the light directed through the individual segments constantly casting new patterns and shadows.

These are usually large room installations with equally large slat structures.

Slats for fascinating effects at home

The designer vases with a slatted surface also offer art in miniature. The vases are given their very special shape by the curved or straight slats.

While the texture of classic vases is usually smooth, roughened or matt, the structure of the modern designer vases from ICONIC HOME creates a new and exciting look for appealing interior design.

In the case of the ICONIC HOME vases, the wave pattern of the slats is created by the modern and energy-saving 3D printing process.

This manufacturing process, in which each vase is built up layer by layer in a detailed printing process, offers creative possibilities with which unusual shapes and structures can be realized – including the high-low lamella structure of the vases.

The special thing about the slats is that their arrangement and the alternation between high and low interrupt the incidence of light and direct the light to other places. In this way, the slats on the vase itself create an exciting interplay of light and shadow, which can change again and again depending on the position of the vase or the angle of incidence of the light.

This turns every vase into a lively decorative object and artistic home accessory.

The effect of the slatted vases also varies depending on the color and size of the respective vase. The vases from ICONIC HOME are not only produced in white, but also in eight other colors. The interplay of light and shadow is shown to its best advantage in lighter models, but also creates an interesting look with dark gray or black vases in the series.

Regular structure for an elegant design

The reason why the structure of the vases is so appealing to the viewer lies in the so-called principle of order. This is a term used in art to describe objects and paintings with regular structures and can also be applied to the regularly arranged segments of the vases.

Using patterns and repetitive structures when designing art objects offers the opportunity to create an aesthetically pleasing overall picture.

The repetition of shapes creates a rhythm that gives the design visual structure. The regular structure directs the viewer’s gaze in a targeted manner.

A symmetrical structure conveys visual balance, stability and order. This applies, for example, to the Straight and Pure vase shapes , where both the shape and the course of the slat structure are linear and straight.

Asymmetrical or curved lines can also be attractive within the pattern as they create dynamism and interest. The round and curved vases Sphere, Shape and Twist achieve this effect through their twisted or curved segments.

This makes ICONIC HOME vases objects for upmarket interiors that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing and add a modern and stylish finishing touch to luxurious home decor.

Artful shapes, stylish colors

Basically, the concept of the vase collection is so well thought out that they can be combined with each other in different colors and sizes.

This means that new images and designs can always be created with the existing vases by combining them in different ways – another plus point in terms of sustainability.

Possible combinations include the presentation of a vase model in three sizes.

In addition, the same vase model can be combined in different sizes and colors.

It is also possible to decorate with different models, either in the same color or in matching different colors.

The different models can therefore be used and combined in a variety of ways, depending on taste and to suit the overall concept of the living space, and can also be rearranged and decorated again and again.
